Cognitive Practice of E-Commerce Department

From August 24 to 28, 2019, under the leadership of Professor Jiang Wu, associate Professor Zhongyi Hu and Teacher Xiaoliu Bai, director of the Office of Undergraduate Teaching Management, students of e-commerce major of 2017-year and 2018-year grade went to Hangzhou and Yiwu to conduct a five-day professional cognitive practice.


On the morning of August 25, students firstly went to visit Alibaba Xixi Park, which was the first stop of the practical tour. During the free visiting in the visitor center, they had a profound understanding of Alibaba's free and open humanistic feelings and corporate culture. Also, the students deeply understood Alibaba's philosophy of "make the world’s businesseasier". In the process of experience sharing, the alumni shared their study and work experience respectively, which made everyone know clearlyabout the problems encountered by them at different times and solutions. From their sharing, the students experienced Alibaba's talent training model and corporate culture with Alibaba's characteristics and learned how to acquire professional skills and the selection of jobs. During the free visiting of other Alibaba parks, they also felt the harmonious working environment and atmosphere of the whole Alibaba family.

 

In the afternoon, the students went to Dream Village of Hangzhou. As an Internet entrepreneurial park, Dream Village supports and encourages college students to conduct e-commerce innovation and entrepreneurship, making their dreams become wealth. Dream Village is divided into one ring, two districts and three satellite zones. The environment provides favorable conditions for college students to start a business.Either the quaint and tranquil landscape or the humanized facility, they distinctively highlight this town.

On the morning of August 26, the students visited China(Hangzhou) Cross-border E-CommerceComprehensive Pilot Area. By watching the introduction video of the customs, everyone felt the influence of cross-border e-commerce and its rapid trend of developing. Also they were impressed by the leading position of theChina (Hangzhou) Cross-border E-CommerceComprehensive Pilot Areain cross-border e-commerce industry in China. Meanwhile, the students learned the concept and operation of the bonded area. Then, under the leadership of the person in charge of the customs, the students learned about the process of cross-border e-commerce operations, and they knew clearlyabout the whole process from temporary storage of goods, inspection of contents, checking quantity to destruction and return processing and understand the rigorous and efficient workflow that occurs behind the users ' simple online shopping behavior. Subsequently, they visited the big warehouse of Alog Technology, witnessing the process of how to inspect and collect package.


In the afternoon, eight students were led to the Netease building by Professor Jiang Wu to investigate and research. Changyan Chen, director of Netease Koala Overseas Shopping, gave a detailed introduction of the company’s development and operation and described two patterns of cross-border e-commerce, the direct purchase and bonded, with their differences, which let everyone see the huge economic potential of cross-border e-commerce retail and the long-term vision and firm determination of Netease Koala Overseas Shopping.

In the meanwhile, other students visited Hikvision’s industrial park in Hangzhou. Through the explanation of the workingstaff, they learned about the development and core business of Hikvision. They experienced its efforts and achievements in video process and analysis technology as an Internet of Things solution provider, as well as reflectionsand practice in the fields of justice, energy, campus, tourism, building, finance, medical care, and home. The students marveled at Hikvision’s emphasis on technology and its application and had an incisive understandingof the significant position of big data and artificial intelligence in the future. Later, an alumni Yegave a presentation on big data for the students, and used the architecture of Hikvision'sthings and information integration as an entry point. The meeting helped the students to know that big data is not only simply collecting data, but also thinking about many aspects in the process of data analysis, such as the collectability of data, the type of data and how to distinguish applications, how to deal with data in order to get relevant information results and so on.


"Looking forward, and going further," this slogan has inspiredHikvision and enlightened all of the students.

On the morning of August 27, the students went to Yiwu International Trade City, which is known as the “International Commodity Capital”, to visit and made a survey. First of all, they visited the district Iof the Trade City which specialized in decoration materials, jewelry, toys, gifts and jade decoration products. After a quick overview of the distribution of the entire area, the students entered a jewelry store to visit and watched how it was going on. They found out that the store implemented a combination business pattern of wholesale and retail in order to adapt to the increasing number of tourists.And then, the students went to the history museum of China's Small Commodity City located in the Yiwu International Trade City District II. They learned the history of how Yiwu changed from "chicken feather for sugar" to "world mall". The next stop was the International Trade City District Vwhich known as "China Imported Goods City", the students learned that the waysthat customers made purchase orderwere diversifiedvia communicating with a number of store owners.Customers can either come to the onsite for wholesale, or make orders on e-commerce platforms, and the related logistics service system has been improved and comparably perfect now.

In the afternoon, the students went to the International Trade City District III and participated in a communication meeting with the owners of Yiwulocal enterprises. At the meeting, the students and the entrepreneurs carried out a fierce thinking collision. It was a heated discussion about how to deal with the situation that the gradual absence of a cost-reduction price advantage of commodity at this stage and the demanding for talents in Yiwu. After the communication meeting, they went to the Beixiazhu Red Broadcasting Club, and learned about the main anchor training mechanism of the Internet celebrity base and the means for electronic broadcast platform to make profitsthrough the explanation of Mr. He,the person in charge of the Beixiazhu Red Broadcasting Club.

In this professional cognitive practice, 2017-year and 2018-year grade e-commerce students not only visited the foremost Internet companies in the industry, understood the corporate culture, operationpattern and employment needs, but also got a closer overview of the workflow of cross-border e-commerce operations in the bonded area and the work scenario slots of the package from packaging to collection. In addition, they got to know about the development of YiwuSmall Commodity City and the operation and means of profitability of live broadcast E-Commerce.


The purpose of this cognitive practice was to give the students a profound and practical understanding of the e-commerce and have a clearer plan for their future.
